Our Story

Zen and Pow Studio is a positive and supportive safe space that offers the best variety of fitness, barre, and yoga Onalaska, Wisconsin. Owner and founder, Stephanie Helmers, started Zen and Pow in 2013 with the mission and vision to share her passion for health and wellness with others. While the circumstances of 2020 brought us the opportunity to take Zen and Pow Studio Online, it has always been a part of our mission to serve as many people as possible–and now we can do just that beyond our local community!

While we have expanded, evolved, and grown Zen and Pow Studio over the years, our core mission has remained the same–offering the best of both worlds, yoga and fitness–Zen and Pow! Our philosophy is firmly rooted in offering our community the BEST variety of classes and offerings all in one place.

One of our core values is being inclusive, which is why we offer options for all ages and abilities to meet you wherever you are at! Whether you’re just coming back from an injury, getting into fitness for the first time, or wanting to overcome a plateau and mix up your workouts–our Studio has something for everyone!

Stephanie Helmers

Stephanie Helmers

Owner & Lead Instructor

Stephanie can be described as many things–a dedicated yogi, an avid fitness lover, an soul inspired entrepreneur, a lifelong learner, and a teacher through and through! Stephanie brings her love for all modalities of movement, energy, and positivity to every class she teaches, from yoga to kickboxing and everything in between. She has taken multiple trainings with leaders in the industry in both yoga and fitness and continues to evolve her teachings with science and cutting edge information. Stephanie brings a kind yet curious attitude to her clients and loves to inspire and encourage her students to find movements that feel right for their body. She believes in making all fitness and yoga accessible to all ages, levels, and abilities and guides clients to explore movement in their own body. Stephanie continues to grow and learn in her teachings of fitness, yoga, and overall health and wellness to offer her clients a total mind body soul experience. Whether you’re hitting the gym or joining her on the mat, Stephanie will make sure you leave with a smile and your cup full of positivity, inspiration, and quite possibly even coffee!
Kelly Goyette

Kelly Goyette

Fitness, Barre, Pound, & Yoga Instructor

Kelly discovered her love for fitness and wellness attending her first kettlebell class at Zen & Pow. Fitness wasn’t always a part of Kelly’s life growing up, but that first class with Stephanie really sparked a joy in her for more movement in her life. She became a regular quickly at classes and progressed to instructor not long after. Kelly plans out classes that are sure to offer fun, challenges, and are mindful of functional movements. She walks her talk and can be found many times taking other instructors classes for her own movement and inspiration. Kelly is group fitness certified and personal training certified, along with being trained in many different formats she teaches. Kelly loves to learn and evolve and continues to seek out ways to grow her fitness knowledge. You can find Kelly teaching barre, bootcamp, HIIT, and her soul workout POUND. Whether you would to pound it out on the mat or get your sweat on at the barre; join Kelly for a class and you are sure to have a great time.

Anne Markos

Anne Markos

Dance, TRX, & Fitness Instructor

Anne has been a part of Zen and Pow since 2017. She feels that the studio is her happy place! In addition to trying almost everything out there (running, aerobics, kickboxing, cycling, weight training, and lots of group exercise ) she has also earned her 2nd degree black belt in American style karate.

Anne teaches anything from Dance Fusion, to TRX, to all kinds of strength style classes, including her favorites, kickboxing and Open Training. She brings high energy and a smile to every class! She finds a way to modify any move for any body, and thinks that variety is key to maintaining strength and mobility for everyday life. The variety of classes and the positive energy at the studio make going to (or teaching) class special every time.

Anne enjoys all the opportunities that Zen and Pow offers for her to always keep learning! As a high school teacher, she enjoys the trainings the studio offers to continuously keep adding to her tool box as a trainer from anatomy and physiology, to CPR, to yoga, and lots of new fitness ideas. Always providing fresh, functional, and most importantly, FUN classes–you’ll surely leave her class with a smile and lots of laughs!

Kendra Carney

Kendra Carney

Fitness & Barre Instructor

Kendra is a kind-hearted, easy going, and energetic person. She is passionate about fitness and helping others reach their greatest potential. That is what drew her to getting certified to teach barre in 2020. She has been an active barre student since 2016 and loves lifting outside of classes. Kendra was a gymnast and in dance throughout high school so barre came pretty natural to her. She really loves the team feel of group classes. In Kendra’s free time you can find her on a boat, sipping wine, or smiling at any animal she sees. You’ll find Kendra at the barre, on the mat, and in the gym at the Studio!

Karin Helmers

Karin Helmers

Yoga, Barre, Pilates & Fitness Instructor

Known as the “Pilates Queen”, Karin is a “founding” member of the tribe and owner, Stephanie’s, mother and biggest cheerleader! A huge supporter of everyone at the studio, Karin enjoys attending all of the other instructors classes to cheer them on, workout beside her fellow tribe members, and gain inspiration and ideas. She always shows up with an uplifting attitude, kind heart, and a big smile! Karin’s passion for movement began with sports in her childhood that led her to teach aerobics at the local Judy’s gym in her twenties. When her daughter opened a fitness and yoga studio, it wasn’t too long before she got the nudge to get back into teaching again!

You’ll see Karin on the schedule leading Pilates, Slow Flow Yoga, and Chair Yoga! She has completed a 200 and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training through two different schools, Pilates and Barre certifications, Kettlebell training, and more. Her goal is for all ages and abilities to find safe, functional movement, all the while keeping classes fun and fresh! If you’re not sure about starting or getting back into a fitness routine–Karin’s classes are always a great place to start! She makes you feel supported, strong, and confident wherever you’re at! Come as you are and meet Karin on the mat for a calming Slow Flow or a booty burning Pilates!

Kasey Pomeroy

Kasey Pomeroy

Barre, Fitness & Yoga Instructor

Kasey is here for all the right reasons: the amazing community, chance to inspire others and be inspired! Although, movement hasn’t always been apart of her life, Kasey has made wellness and lifestyle changes a part of her routine through yoga, meditation, spin, and yoga sculpt. Kasey attained her 200 RYT yoga certification through Breathe for Change in the summer of 2018.

Since then, Kasey has been using yoga in her classroom as a special education teacher and a yoga instructor. Kasey is an energetic and bubbly instructor who brings her outgoing personality to her classes. You’ll find her at the barre and on the mat!

Courtney MacPherson

Fitness, Pilates, & Barre Instructor

Courtney is in her senior year at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse studying Exercise and Sport Science on the Pre-Athletic Training Track with a Nutrition minor. She has always had a passion for fitness as she grew up on a competitive dance team for 15 years before she came to La Crosse for college. Courtney’s positive attitude is sure to brighten anyone’s day as she is always creating and leading a fun, high energy classes that are sure to leave you feeling amazing! You’ll find Courtney leading Small Group Training sessions as well as Boot Camp & Barre!

Alexa Aumann

Brand Integrator

Alexa graduated from UWL with a degree in Sport Management, so she loves the behind-the-scenes aspects of the front desk at Zen and Pow as well as being in front of the class and teaching. Since starting in January solely at the front desk, Alexa has added teaching more classes to her schedule, including Strength, TRX, and HIIT Mix. She has loved connecting with members even more through teaching classes!

Alexa loves all the new opportunities and chances to learn Zen and Pow offers, most recently including getting Barre certified! Her favorite class is HIIT, but she has enjoyed trying out all the unique classes at the studio. Alexa loves the variety that Zen and Pow has to offer, from all the amazing classes to all the fun things at the front desk! You’ll find her in the gym, at the barre, or behind the front desk greeting you with a warm smile!
Kerrigan Lyga

Kerrigan graduated from Western Technical College with a degree in Business Management. She led Western’s Women’s Basketball team to their first national tournament in 2019. After graduation, her passion for the game turned into a passion for all things fitness. Aside from fitness, Kerrigan also loves social media and networking. She runs her own Instagram business, @kerriganskloset, where she sells clothes and gives them a new chance at life! She loves getting to know the ins and outs of a well established business, as well as meeting all the amazing members! You’ll see Kerrigan at the front desk and behind the scenes serving our members at the studio!

“I am excited to be a long-distance member at Zen & Pow Studio. I have a great workout space in my basement but getting there has been a challenge for me! Having the ability to sign up for live stream classes at the beginning of the week, and knowing that someone will be expecting me to sign on in the morning has been just the boost I needed to get back into a regular workout routine since the local gym I was attending closed. This year, my New Years Resolution was to lose 40lbs and with the help of Zen & Pow, I am halfway there. Since COVID-19 I have been working out from home and joining virtually for LIVE classes, but don’t feel like I’m really missing out – through social media, emails, and chatting before and after classes, I still feel connected to the gym members and have gotten into a great workout/weight-loss routine. Steph always does a great job of motivating me, and if she hasn’t heard from me in a while, she’ll reach out to see how it’s going and if there is anything she can do to help.
